Prospects for environmental technologies discussed at the ATOMEXPO 2024
20:41 / 2024-03-26

Representatives of the BRICS, CIS, and SCO member states supported the creation of an international scientific and production infrastructure to develop environmental technologies.

The international forum ATOMEXPO 2024, considered the main event of the nuclear industry, is full of roundtable discussions, meetings, and important agreements.

At the roundtable discussion on “Progressive environmental technologies as a global trend in the development of business and government”, experts discussed the priorities for developing environmental technologies to improve the population’s quality of life. Particular attention was paid to the execution of international obligations within the framework of the implementation of the provisions of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal.

“The introduction of innovative environmental technologies is necessary for achieving the carbon neutrality paradigm", says First Deputy CEO of the Rosatom State Corporation, Director for the Development and International Business Unit Kirill Komarov. “New types of green energy, including nuclear, renewable, quantum solutions and digital environmental monitoring, as well as effective waste management, are new business opportunities for the technological development of countries. In most of these areas, Rosatom has already achieved some success and is ready to offer a highly qualified scientific and technological base. It is necessary to create an international research infrastructure to develop and transfer advanced environmental technologies. Because our planet’s future and future generations’ lives depend on it”.

“It is important to exchange experience in the development and implementation of new environmental technologies, especially in compliance with international obligations”, says Brazilian expert Adalberto Maluf. “Close cooperation is needed to study and discuss the adaptation of technologies developed abroad to local conditions”.

According to the participants, uniting the efforts of countries to apply advanced environmental technologies, decarbonize the economy, and international cooperation will bring good results.
