On January 30, Tashkent hosted an international conference on “Global Trends in Legal Practice: Application of General English Law”.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Tashkent State University of Law together with the University of Law – Ulaw and the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Uzbekistan, was attended by legal scholars, specialists from ministries and agencies, domestic and foreign experts in English law and legal education, representatives of prestigious international companies.

Deputy Minister of Justice H. Meliyev noted that in the current period of development of Uzbekistan, the importance of legal reforms is high. Foreign experience plays a unique role in their implementation. Therefore, within the framework of the national legal system, mechanisms for applying international trends should be improved and effectively used in legal practice.

At the event, views and experience were exchanged with practicing lawyers in English law.

Reforms implemented in development of legal education in Uzbekistan, prospects for development of the sphere were discussed at the conference. Opinions were expressed on the joint creation of the International University of Law in Tashkent, the provision of in-depth study of English law and introduction of the positive aspects of English law into the national law system, the application of international standards in the country and creation of opportunities to improve the quality of legal education.

Following the conference, tasks were identified for developing plans and proposals in Uzbekistan for legal education and practice, taking into account the principles of general English law.
