President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov left 11 September for the city of Dushanbe. As it was reported earlier, in the capital of Tajikistan the head of our state is to take part in the next session of Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s highest decision-making body – the Council of the Heads of State.

Participants of the upcoming summit meeting of SCO are expected to discuss prospects of refining further the activities of the Organization, issues pertinent to ensuring regional security, to boosting the economic and investment cooperation, interaction in the transport and communications sphere, as well as other topics of common interest.

It remains to be reminded that Uzbekistan participates in the SCO from 2001, when the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, China, Tajikistan and our country inked, in the city of Shanghai, the Declaration on the Establishment of Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Later, in 2004 and 2005, Pakistan, Iran, India and Mongolia were granted the status of observer nations in the Organization, to be added by Afghanistan in 2012. In the meanwhile, Belarus, Sri Lanka and Turkey are SCO’s Partners in Dialogue.

At the Tashkent Summit of the SCO in April 2010, secretariats of Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the United Nations signed a joint declaration on cooperation.
