Presidential Press Secretary holds a briefing on Samarkand Summit

Presidential Press Secretary Sherzod Asadov held a briefing in Samarkand.

“At the beginning of the week, we briefly informed about the important event of these days – the Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. We decided to meet with you again taking into account the fact that events within the framework of the Summit are starting today”, Mr. Asadov noted. – Since this morning, foreign guests began to arrive in Samarkand. In particular, our first guest, President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, has just arrived in the city. UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary A. DiCarlo is expected to arrive in Samarkand.

As previously reported, the official visit of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raisi begins today. He will arrive in Samarkand in the afternoon, and talks at the highest level will take place today. Following the meeting, it is planned to sign documents on trade, cooperation, innovation, transport, energy, tourism, and others.

The President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping and the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov will also arrive in Samarkand today in the afternoon.

All other guests are expected to arrive tomorrow, September 15. Many bilateral talks are planned for this day. The informal events of the SCO Summit will begin in the evening.

The main event will take place on September 16 under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the Congress Hall of the new tourist center.

It is expected that the agenda of the Samarkand Summit will be full of current regional and global themes. Important decisions and documents will be adopted to further strengthen multifaceted cooperation within the SCO.

The Summit will once again confirm that the SCO is an authoritative organization that promotes open and broad cooperation in an interdependent world and serves to enhance friendly, equal and mutually beneficial international relations between states.
