President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chairs a videoconference on the development of the country’s tourism potential.

Hokims of the regions and ambassadors were instructed to work this year based on a specific plan and commitment to attract 7 million foreign and 15 million local tourists, bringing the industry’s exports to $2.5 billion.

Following the instructions of the President, several meetings were held with tour operators, representatives of hotels, transport companies, and universities. Their problems and proposals were studied.

Studies have shown that there is little content about places to attract tourists, and the available ones are not interesting. There are not enough tour packages for tourists to stay for 4-5 days. There are many inaccuracies in booking tickets 3-6 months in advance and purchasing them. There is no connection between museums, theaters, or cultural institutions with tourism programs. The opening hours of these institutions are not coordinated with the needs of tourists.

The Head of state criticized the inability of responsible persons in the sphere to work systematically and eliminate these and other shortcomings, noting areas that require urgent change.
