A presentation of the monograph “From the Past to the Future: Human Rights in the Modern World”, authored by Russian scientists and published by the Institute of Heritage and Modern Society of the Russian State University for the Humanities, took place at the Human Rights House in Tashkent.
The event was held as part of a visit to Uzbekistan by a delegation led by Valery Fadeyev, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights.
Leading government and scientific figures from both countries, representatives of government authorities, academia, and human rights organizations, as well as employees of information and library centers in the regions, attended the event.
Director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Akmal Saidov, emphasized the important role of legal literature in improving the legal culture and legal awareness of citizens. He also announced the opening of a special corner “Russia and Human Rights” in the Human Rights House.
It is based on books provided by the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Russian Federation, the Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University of Russia Institute of Law, and other institutions.
As Valery Fadeyev noted, this initiative aims to disseminate knowledge about the Russian system of protecting rights and freedoms, as well as to strengthen professional contacts and interstate dialogue in human rights. In a rapidly changing world, issues of rights and freedoms cannot be limited to a single ideology or tradition. A broad inter-civilizational dialogue is therefore needed that can offer new ways of development.
The speakers noted that the monograph is a fundamental study that analyzes from a scientific, theoretical and practical point of view such issues as the integration of human rights ideas into the system of traditional values of Russian society, the peculiarities of their development in comparison with other legal and cultural traditions, as well as the importance of social rights in the context of global challenges.
Special attention was paid to the need to continue and deepen the bilateral dialogue. The importance of joint humanitarian projects was emphasized.
Following the event, new books, textbooks, and magazines published by the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan were handed over to the members of the Russian delegation.
