The conservation of rare and endangered plant species is essential in ensuring biodiversity.
The legislation states that rare and endangered plant species listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan can be used to conduct scientific research on the conservation, protection, reproduction, and restoration of these plant species outside their natural habitat.
At a meeting of the faction of the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, a Draft Law “On introducing amendments and addenda to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with further strengthening the protection of rare and endangered species of plants and animals listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan” was discussed, which reflects the above procedures.
It was noted that systematic measures are being taken to ensure sustainable living conditions and the growth of rare and endangered plant species in Uzbekistan and to preserve their natural populations. This draft law, submitted for discussion by deputies, also provides for the establishment of a norm according to which seeds, and seedlings of plants listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan can be grown in nurseries and plantations, and after at least three years after planting in the natural environment, their seeds can be collected or harvested.
The faction members noted that this bill would prevent the complete disappearance of rare and endangered plant species and increase and protect them, which fully corresponds to the program goals of the party.
The draft law's relevance was noted during the discussions, and several suggestions and recommendations for further improvement were made.
