This site holds many secrets. Each unique find tells a story from the distant past. We are speaking about the Chinortepa monument.

The archaeological monument Chinortepa is located in the village of Chinor, Uzun district, Surkhandarya region, on an elevation between the Babatag mountain range and the Surkhandarya River. It is an important historical and cultural site linking the past and present, where archaeologists have excavated for years.

As a result of archaeological research, settlements from the Kushan period were located on the river’s eastern bank. In 2019, the archaeological team determined the boundaries of the Chinortepa monument, covering an area of approximately 350,000 square meters. Fragments of ancient ceramics, copper coins, stone tools, and other finds provided valuable scientific information for determining the site’s age.

The archaeological team also excavated a trench measuring 2x10 meters. Cultural layers from different periods confirmed the complete continuity of settlement in the area from the Kushan to the Mongol era. Within the Kushan cultural layer, houses built in three phases were uncovered.

According to scientific data, the Chinortepa monument spans a historical period of more than 3,000 years.
