Perspective directions of protection of Uzbekistan’s cultural-historical heritage under discussion
On June 18, 2024, the Chairperson of the National Commission for UNESCO of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Gayane Umerova, and the Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to UNESCO, Kamol Mukhtarov, met with the Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Lazare Eloundou Assomo, in Paris.
Promising directions for enhancing cooperation in protecting, preserving, and managing Uzbekistan’s cultural and historical heritage, including World Heritage sites in Bukhara, Shakhrisabz, Khiva, and Samarkand, were considered. Issues of developing a master plan for Bukhara, which is carried out by Wilmotte & Associés and Deloitte in accordance with the Convention concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage of 1972, were also discussed.

Agreements were reached on the resumption of the International Advisory Committee (IAC) for the World Heritage Sites in Uzbekistan and the organization of an advisory mission of UNESCO experts to Uzbekistan.
