Abdulaziz Kamilov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan:
– We have witnessed an important international event – a peace agreement has been signed between the United States of America and the Taliban Movement. For the first time in forty years, a good opportunity has been presented to achieve peace in Afghanistan. At the same time, a significant contribution of Uzbekistan to this process should be noted.
The peace process in Afghanistan, initiated by the firm political will and pragmatic approach of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, served as an important factor in reaching a historic agreement in Doha.
What are the positive results of this agreement?
First, it laid the foundation for a peaceful, tranquil, happy and prosperous life for Afghanistan people. Hostilities and violence will cease on this land for the first time.
Second, this agreement also means peace and stability in Uzbekistan. At the meeting with us, representatives of the Taliban Movement noted that they would never allow actions that pose a threat to Uzbekistan’s security and expressed their willingness to work together in this direction. This is a huge achievement for our country, the result of the policy pursued by the President. Our country and Afghanistan share practical interests. Construction of new roads, establishment of trade and economic ties, the export of Uzbekistan products through Afghanistan to South Asian countries such as India, Pakistan and Iran, are among them. We will consistently continue our cooperation with the international community on Afghanistan, we will make every effort to implement the initiatives of the President of the country to establish peace in Afghanistan and ensure security in the region, since we first of all need peace in order to carry out large-scale reforms.
