10:29 / 2022-05-02

Uzbekistan – China Textile Forum brought together representatives of state organizations and private textile enterprises of the two countries.

The event was organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Beijing together with the Uzbekistan Textile and Garment Industry Association and the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textile and Apparel. It was noted that China is one of the largest importers of Uzbekistan textile products. Its export in January-March of the current year alone amounted to $119.7 million. In 2021, China imported $597 million worth of Uzbek textiles.

33 textile enterprises operate in Uzbekistan with the participation of Chinese investments. Over the past 4 years, 12 investment projects worth over $500 million of Chinese direct investment were implemented. Over 6,000 people were employed.

Chairman of Uzbekistan Textile and Garment Industry Association Ilkhom Khaydarov informed the participants about the textile industry of Uzbekistan. It was emphasized that the boycott of Uzbek cotton has been canceled, and this should also serve to develop bilateral trade and economic cooperation in the textile industry.

Chairman of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textile and Apparel (CCCT) Cao Jiachang highly appreciated the reforms in Uzbekistan and noted that China considers the country as one of the important partners in the textile industry. This is confirmed by the growth in trade, in particular in 2021 by 10%. He called on Chinese textile companies to intensify cooperation with Uzbek partners.

The participants and speakers spoke about the successful experience of cooperation and exchanged views and proposals in certain areas of the industry.

Following the forum, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Uzbekistan Textile and Garment Industry Association and the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textile and Apparel.
