Parliaments of Uzbekistan and Russia enhance cooperation

Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko paid an official visit to Uzbekistan.

On October 1-3, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko paid an official visit to Uzbekistan.

The Senate of the Oliy Majlis organized a press conference on the results of the visit at the Agency of Information and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan.

The First Deputy Chairman of the Senate Sodik Safoyev noted that the official visit of the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko to Uzbekistan became an important step towards enhancing relations between Uzbekistan and Russia and deepening inter-parliamentary dialogue between the two countries.

Uzbekistan and Russian parliaments reached an agreement on enhancing cooperation within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and other international and regional parliamentary organizations.

Particular attention was paid to the issues of development of relations between the regions of Uzbekistan and Russia with the assistance of the upper houses of the parliaments of the two countries. In this regard, preparations are underway for the second Uzbekistan – Russia interregional forum to be held in Russia.

An important part of the program of Valentina Matviyenko’s visit to Uzbekistan was devoted to getting acquainted with the reforms and transformations being carried out in the country.

In an interview with media representatives, Valentina Matviyenko expressed satisfaction with the results of the visit, meetings with members of Uzbekistan parliament, and bilateral agreements.
