Over 400 businesspeople took part in UBTIC Session

The 25th Session of the Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council (UBTIC) has ended.

The event was attended by over 400 business representatives from the two countries, including such large British companies as British Petroleum, Energy Industries Council, Rio Tinto, Worley Parsons, Petrofac, Cambridge Education Partnership, Mott MacDonald, TheCityUK, Sturgeon Capital.

The participants of the event discussed prospects for economic cooperation, primarily in such priority areas as renewable energy, finance, education and healthcare.

The British side, noting that in his Address to the Parliament, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev identified the UK as one of the key partners, declared its firm commitment to further develop comprehensive cooperation with Uzbekistan and support large-scale reforms in the country.

Emphasizing that Uzbekistan became the first Central Asian state to sign a Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the UK in October 2019, London expressed its readiness to conclude a new Enhanced GSP agreement, which would allow the export of Uzbekistan agricultural and textile products to the United Kingdom market without duties.

The British delegation confirmed its readiness to promote Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO, the creation of Tashkent International Financial Center, as well as the reform of the education sector.

Following the event, a Joint Action Plan for 2021, providing for the implementation of bilateral projects, a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Nukus branch of Tashkent State Agrarian University and Bangor University, a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Medical Institute of Karakalpakstan and the University of Portsmouth, a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Yeoju Technical Institute in Tashkent and the University of Strathclyde, a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Agency for the Development of Presidential, Creative and Specialized Schools and the Cambridge Assessment, a Memorandum of Cooperation between Uzbekistan State University of World Languages ​​and Cambridge Assessment, were signed.
