OTS: An effective platform for dialogue and cooperation in the Turkic world
14:45 / 2025-10-06

Since the early years of independence, Uzbekistan has actively supported the idea of Turkic cooperation.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the 2018 Summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Kyrgyzstan as an honorary guest. Since then, Uzbekistan has become one of the most active member countries within the Organization.

What is the significance of the OTS? Above all, it serves as a driver of economic growth. If Turkic states increase mutual trade, new markets will open, jobs will be created, and product prices will decline. The transport and logistics system will also improve, which is of great importance for the development of both economic and cultural ties. The Turkic peoples are united primarily by their common linguistic heritage and shared historical roots. The OTS promotes comprehensive integration among Turkic-speaking countries – spanning the spheres of economy, culture, and politics.

If the Turkic states coordinate their actions and continue to strengthen their partnership, their influence on the international stage will grow significantly.

Over the past six to seven years, Uzbekistan’s trade with Turkic countries has nearly doubled. In particular, trade turnover with Kazakhstan, which amounted to $2 billion eight years ago, reached $4.2 billion last year. Trade with Türkiye increased from $1.5 billion to $3 billion. Significant growth has also been recorded in trade with Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan.

The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) serves as a key platform for strengthening Uzbekistan’s multilateral cooperation with Turkic nations across various fields. By realizing its considerable untapped potential, the Turkic space can become a significant center of economic growth and a major hub for transport and logistics.

On October 6-7, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will pay a working visit to Azerbaijan. The Head of State will take part in the events of the OTS Summit, which will be held in the city of Qabala.

In recent years, thanks to Uzbekistan’s active stance and initiatives, the unity among Turkic-speaking countries has been significantly strengthened.
