OSCE PA webinar on the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals

The webinar of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has taken place on “Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the OSCE Region: A Parliamentary Perspective”.

The event was attended by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Margareta Cederfelt, Regional Director for Europe of the World Health Organization Dr. Hans Kluge and other representatives of the OSCE PA member states, as well as representatives of several institutions and structures of the organization.

The webinar was organized as part of the Parliamentary Assembly’s Call for Action – Helsinki +50 process. The participants discussed the role of national parliaments in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, noted that parliaments play a special role in ensuring the timely and effective implementation of the priority tasks of the SDGs.

The Coordinating Council led by the Deputy Prime Minister and the Parliamentary Commission of the Oliy Majlis are functioning effectively in Uzbekistan.

Last year, the Sustainable Development Goals Week was held for the first time. Within its framework, Uzbekistan was the first among other countries to come up with an initiative to unite the efforts of parliamentarians in sustainable development.

The participants of the event also discussed issues of enhancing the role of parliamentarians in the OSCE region.
