On June 14, OSCE/ODIHR representatives visited the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The delegation is led by the Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission for the 2021 Presidential Elections, Eoghan Murphy. The delegation includes ODIHR Senior Adviser on New Voting Technologies Vladimir Misev, ODIHR Election Adviser Kseniya Dashutina and Martina Barker-Ciganikova.
Eoghan Murphy noted the cooperation established in recent years between the OSCE/ODIHR and Uzbekistan in the electoral field, the introduction of best practices that meet international standards. He also dwelled on the important aspects of the ODIHR’s activities following the results of election observation in the post-election period.
An important document – the final report of the ODIHR mission on the Elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan was presented. Recommendations were given to improve the legal framework and practice of future elections. Ways to deepen practical cooperation were discussed.
Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zayniddin Nizamkhodjayev noted that for the first time in the history of national elections, the International Election Observation Mission was formed by the joint efforts of the OSCE/ODIHR, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the European Parliament during the last elections.
The parties discussed the issues of cooperation on further strengthening the potential of the national electoral system. It was noted that in this regard, the mutual exchange of experience and familiarity with existing international norms and practices in the preparation and conduction of elections are of particular importance.
