A meeting of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly was held in Dushanbe, attended by a parliamentary delegation headed by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbayeva.
At the meeting, the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko was re-elected as Chairperson of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States.
As part of the preparations for the 59th plenary session of the Assembly, the agenda, regulations, and composition of the editorial board were approved. Information on Tajikistan’s chairmanship of the CIS in 2025 was presented, and it was noted that next year the chairmanship will pass to Turkmenistan.

The chairpersons of the permanent commissions of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly were appointed. The candidate from Uzbekistan – Sh. Sharafutdinov, Deputy of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, was elected Chairperson of the Committee on Culture, Information, Tourism, and Sports.
The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly’s work plan for 2026 was also approved. According to the document, the plan includes holding meetings of councils and commissions, participating in international forums, implementing youth and educational programs, and conducting election observation.
