Tashkent’s secondary school No.60 has been named after the German poet and thinker Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in order to further strengthen cultural-humanitarian ties between Uzbekistan and Germany.

An event was held at this education institution with participation of representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, Embassy of Germany in Uzbekistan.
The Minister of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov, representative of the Embassy of Germany in Uzbekistan Christopher Fuchs and others noted that naming this education institution after Goethe is another embodiment of mutual desire of the two countries to raise bilateral relations to a new level.
The number of schools in Uzbekistan where the German language is taught has reached 1,677. More than 355 thousand students are learning German. There are 9 schools with in-depth study of German in the country.
Within the framework of “Schools: partners of the future” project, the Ministry of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan actively cooperates with Goethe-Institute in Tashkent and the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) for improving German language education in general education schools. As a result, teaching of German has expanded in schools of Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Margilan and Fergana.
