October 20 – World Statistics Day
14:59 / 2023-10-20

Based on the UN General Assembly resolution of June 3, 2010, October 20 was declared World Statistics Day. This date is widely celebrated once every five years.

According to the resolution, the UN calls on all member countries, international and regional organizations, research institutions, and the media to ensure openness, impartiality, and truthfulness of statistical data.

The Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Open Data Inventory (ODIN) ranking rose to 30th place among 195 countries with 70 points and retained 1st place in Central Asia. ODIN has been included among the sustainable development indicators since 2023. This, in turn, will lead to increased credibility of the ranking and greater use by countries of open data in monitoring the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals by 2030.

In 2017, the Agency filled out about 20 questionnaires from 6 international organizations. By 2023, it is planned to provide information on the indicators of the socio-economic development of Uzbekistan based on 49 types of questionnaires from 17 international organizations.

To introduce international recommendations and standards into the national statistical system, study international experience, and continuously improve the system, active international cooperation has been established with more than 10 international organizations and statistical departments of 11 foreign countries.

In the 2023 BRM (SDG index) ranking, Uzbekistan ranked 69th among 166 countries with an index of 71.1. This result is higher by 8 positions compared to 2022.
