Tashkent hosted the opening ceremony of Nordic International University – a non-governmental education organization based on the advanced achievements of Finland in education.
The event was attended by a delegation from Finland, rectors of higher education institutions, representatives of the educational system, the public, and the media.
Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Presidential Press Secretary Sherzod Asadov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland to Uzbekistan Ilkka Räisänen, Head of the State Inspectorate for Supervision of Quality of Education under the Cabinet of Ministers Ulugbek Tashkenbayev, Director of the Finnish National Agency for Education Samu Seitsalo and others noted that the two countries have established effective cooperation in education. Confidence was expressed that the university would make a significant contribution to training highly qualified specialists, taking into account the needs of the real sector of the economy, based on best practices, innovative educational models, curricula and programs created in prestigious universities in Northern Europe.
Necessary measures are being taken in Uzbekistan to ensure the implementation of the tasks set by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the study and performance of the Finnish education system in the development of the education system, together with the educational institutions of this country. In November 2021, Uzbekistan delegation visited Finland. During the visit, an agreement was reached on strengthening mutual academic mobility and establishing cooperation between domestic state and non-state higher education institutions and leading universities in Finland.
At the tenth meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Finland for Political Consultations, held on May 27, 2022, in Tashkent, an agreement was reached on the creation of a modern private higher education institution based on the advanced achievements of the Nordic countries in education. International Nordic University has received a license from the State Inspectorate for Supervision of Quality of Education to provide non-state higher education services in Uzbekistan.
The university began its activity based on the advanced achievements of Finland in education with the direct support of Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Helsingin Suomalainen Yhteistokoulu (SYK), the transnational corporation NOKIA, Finnish Water Forum, and ISKU. It aims to train highly qualified specialists in eight areas of education, accelerating the organic integration of higher education science production. Analyzing global trends in education, the demand for personnel and the expectations of young people, the university will train competitive personnel in economics, finance, business and production management, primary and preschool education, foreign language and literature, English and computer engineering. The university will assist young people who want to work in all areas of business, top managers, consultant economists, international financial analysts, managers of industrial sectors, not only in obtaining higher education by international requirements, but also in solving complex IT issues, learning foreign languages.
At the university, in addition to English and Russian, students will study Finnish in their first and fourth-year courses. In all courses, regardless of the direction of study, during the summer holidays, there will be an opportunity to participate in exchange programs, visit Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Based on joint programs in 2+2, and 3+1 systems, after the second year, it will be possible to continue their studies in Finland and receive a double diploma. Bachelor’s graduates will be able to work in leading companies of foreign partner countries, implement their start-ups. Those who complete a bachelor’s degree (with a high GPA score) will be able to study on preferential terms in a master’s program in Finland.
It is planned to accept 500 people for this academic year.
