The 80th anniversary Session of the UN General Assembly has become a significant event in the history of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s speech, as well as meetings with the heads of influential international organizations and leaders of key states, further enriched Uzbekistan’s foreign policy course.

Odiljon Mamatkarimov, Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Affairs, Foreign Investments, and Tourism, shared his thoughts on this issue:

– The initiatives put forward by the President from a high international rostrum were not just declarative statements, but practical solutions.

The speech highlighted global problems such as the weakening of international institutions, growing contradictions and armed conflicts worldwide, a sharp increase in technological and social inequality, and the aggravation of economic and humanitarian crises.  The need to transform and expand the composition of the UN Security Council to more effectively combat current challenges and threats and protect the interests of developing countries was emphasized. The Head of State noted that Uzbekistan fully supports the UN-80 initiatives and reaffirms its firm commitment to the Pact for the Future.

In his speech, the Head of State also discussed the large-scale reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan. It was noted that significant progress has been achieved primarily through the reform of education and science, the creation of innovative industries and technological industrial enterprises, the development of green energy, the modernization of transport infrastructure, comprehensive support for small businesses, and, as a result, the creation of millions of jobs. The tasks of increasing the prestige of the teaching and mentoring profession and modernizing the healthcare system remain key aspects. The President called for the implementation of these initiatives in partnership with the international community.

During the session, the President of Uzbekistan held talks with several influential individuals. In particular, during the meeting with the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO and its integration into the global trade system were discussed.

In addition, the possibilities of deepening regional cooperation and implementing joint projects with the United Nations in the infrastructure and innovation were considered.

The meeting of the Presidents of Uzbekistan and the United States became one of the most important events within the framework of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly. Issues related to expanding strategic partnerships and implementing new economic and investment projects were discussed during the bilateral talks.

The speech by the President of Uzbekistan at the UN General Assembly session strengthened Uzbekistan’s international authority. The initiatives expressed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev aimed at countering global challenges have ensured the recognition of the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan in the international arena.

In general, this visit, as well as the proposals and initiatives voiced from the UN rostrum, demonstrated the practical effectiveness of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy. The President of Uzbekistan has been an initiator of ideas promoting peace, harmony, and sustainable development, not only at the regional level, but also at the global level.
