New stage in international cooperation

On December 10-14, delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan led by Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council visited Ukraine and Portugal.

On December 10-14, delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan led by Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council visited Ukraine and Portugal.

The delegation became familiar with the organizational-legal framework and activities of the Supreme Council of Justice of Ukraine and the Superior Council of Magistrates of Portugal and established legal framework for cooperation and interaction between the parties in the areas of mutual interest.

Members of the delegation held meetings at the Supreme Council of Justice, the Supreme Court, the Council of Judges, the National School of Judges of Ukraine, the Superior Council of Magistracy and the Center for Judicial Studies of the Ministry of Justice of the Portuguese Republic, discussed implementation of joint projects in judicial-legal sphere.

A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Research Center for the Study of Problems of Justice at the Supreme Judicial Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Centre for Judicial Studies of the Ministry of Justice of the Portuguese Republic, in Lisbon.

The document provides for cooperation in strengthening the independence of the judiciary, improving the process of selecting and appointing judges, training judges and candidates for judges, improving the organizational-legal framework and practices of the judicial community bodies. Within the framework of the memorandum, joint projects will be implemented on studying international trends in development of legislation in the judicial-legal sphere, conducting a comparative analysis of international-legal norms and national legislation on the most current issues of judicial-legal reforms.

The sides exchanged views on current issues of reforming the judicial system. Following the visit, agreements were reached on further development of bilateral cooperation in the legal-judicial sphere.
