A training seminar has taken place in Guliston for the chairmen of neighbourhood people’s gatherings.

The event was arranged by the Sirdaryo Regional department of the Mahalla public charity foundation together with a number of organizations.

It has been noted there that consistent reforms being implemented under the leadership of the country’s President to build a law-governed democratic state and strong civil society are an important factor in improving the work of self-governing bodies and in further strengthening their interaction with bodies of state administration and government.

In elections that took place in the region in May-June this year, 266 chairmen of citizens’ gatherings were elected, and 240 of them were elected to this position for the first time. Today they are conducting effective work on the socio-economic development of their neighbourhoods and on the raising of the population’s wellbeing. During the seminar, there was discussion of issues of further improving the work of citizens’ gatherings and their public commissions.

“Today neighbourhoods have turned into an effective public and civil structure, and literally into a school of democracy. There are 17 neighbourhood citizens’ gatherings in our town, and in 14 of them new chairmen were elected. Today’s seminar was held with the use of modern forms and methods and advanced information communication technologies. In addition to upgrading qualifications, the chairmen were given methodological help necessary for work in accordance with modern requirements,” says the chairman of the Guliston town department of the Mahalla public charity foundation, R.Bektemirov.

During the event, the essence and significance of the law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On elections of chairmen (elders) of citizens’ gatherings and their advisers” and tasks of chairmen of citizens’ gatherings to ensure the observance of norms specified in the law were explained to its participants.
