Negotiations with Turkey’s Foreign Minister

On 9 March 2021, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in Tashkent.

The Second Meeting of the Strategic Planning Group took place under the chairmanship of the foreign ministers of the two countries.

According to Uzbekistan MFA, the current state and prospects for the development of relations in the political, trade-economic, transport-communication, investment, tourism, cultural-humanitarian and other spheres were discussed at the meeting.

The parties noted with satisfaction the implementation of the agreements reached in February 2020 in Ankara during the meetings and negotiations of the Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Organizational issues of preparation for the upcoming joint events, in particular, the second meeting for Strategic Cooperation of the highest level, were considered.

The parties exchanged views on strengthening the inter-parliamentary dialogue, improving the legal framework of relations, and building up interregional cooperation

Mutual interest was expressed in further enhancing cooperation within the framework of the UN, OIC, Turkic Council, ECO and other multilateral structures.

Special attention was paid to enhancing partnership in the scientific-educational sphere, including the opening of a branch of Bahçeşehir University in Uzbekistan, as well as the establishment of Fergana Higher School of Tourism together with Haci Bayram Veli University.

The Turkish side was invited to the High-level International Conference “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and Opportunities”, International Festivals Sharq Taronalari, Bakhshi Art, Handicrafters and other events in Uzbekistan.

Certain aspects of the international and regional agenda were also considered at the event.

Following the event, the foreign ministers of the two countries signed a Program of Cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Turkey for 2022-2023 and a Memorandum of Understanding in the translation services.
