Negotiations with EU Special Representative for Afghanistan

On November 15, 2021, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev held talks with the Special Envoy of the European Union for Afghanistan, Tomas Niklasson, in Brussels, Uzbekistan MFA reports.

The efforts of Uzbekistan and the European Union to peacefully resolve the Afghan crisis, as well as to provide humanitarian and other assistance to the country were discussed during the conversation.

Tomas Niklasson highly appreciated Uzbekistan's assistance in evacuating citizens of EU member states from Afghanistan and expressed interest in continuing to actively cooperate with Uzbekistan in establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan, as well as in creating a humanitarian hub in Termez.

The parties also exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan, the development of a consolidated position of the international community, both concerning the new authorities of the country, and the prevention of a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

The parties expressed mutual interest in continuing consultations on Afghan issues.
