Uzbekistan, in its debutant appearance, presents the project Mahalla: Urban and Provincial Life at the 17th International Architecture Biennale, which will be held from May 22nd to November 21st, 2021.
The opening of the project of the National Pavilion of Uzbekistan at the Venice Biennale from the Uzbek side was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the National Pavilion of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva, Executive Director of the Foundation, Commissioner of the exhibition project Gayane Umerova, as well as President of La Biennale di Venezia Roberto Cicutto, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay and others.
“We are pleased to present the first project of the National Pavilion of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the La Biennale Di Venezia. The rich architectural heritage of our country and modern cultural, academic and professional achievements are allowing us to become full-fledged participants in international dialogue, initiate a fruitful cultural exchange and invite foreign experts to discuss pressing regional and global challenges”, said the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the National Pavilion of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov.
“We are faced with the task of preserving our heritage, and at the same time adapting it to the requirements of a dynamically changing world. The National Pavilion at the La Biennale Di Venezia is an ideal platform for such academic and artistic research, dialogue with the world’s best experts and demonstration of the results of joint work”, said the Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva.
The pavilion’s commissioner is the Art and Culture Development Foundation under the Ministry of Culture. The project is aimed at strengthening the national presence in the global cultural space.
