At the initiative of Uzbekistan’s First President Islam Karimov, the Uzbek language was given the status of the state language 27 years ago, which was an important historic event in the nation’s life.

These days, events are being held at various organizations, establishments, educational institutions and in neighbourhoods in the country on this anniversary.

At an event held at the Tashkent railway engineering institute, it was noted that the sphere of the use of the Uzbek language had expanded, that scholarly work and research were being conducted to develop it further and that scientific-popular books and booklets were being published and delivered to educational institutions.

Linguists, writers and poets, scholars, artists and journalists attended the event. Views were expressed there on issues of forming a better culture of communication adhering to the Uzbek language’s standards and widely using the rich possibilities of the language.

“It has always been a moral duty and a great honour for teachers to preserve and respect our mother tongue and to develop and raise its significance. The Uzbek language is not only a means of communication for the nation who use it, but it is also a language of socio-political, scientific and artistic literature. Therefore at today’s event, specialists of the sphere gave young people detailed information about our language’s richness and possibilities,” says D.Baratov, prorector of the Tashkent railway engineering institute.
