In the 60s of the last century, the development of Mirzachul steppe was compared with the exploration of outer space. Therefore, the city was named after the first cosmonaut. Another reason is that Yuri Gagarin loved sunny Uzbekistan, its people, and often came here. From 1961 to 1968, he visited the country six times. During his trips, he made friends with many public figures, representatives of culture and art, young people.
In 1974, Mirzachul district center was given the status of a city, which was named after Gagarin.
The head of the delegation, Vladimir Shamanov, made a great contribution to the creation of the museum. He grew up in Mirzachul district, graduated from secondary school No.1 in the district center, then the Chirchik military school.
The museum has sections dedicated to the achievements of cosmonautics, the contribution of Uzbekistan to this sphere, the role of the outstanding thinkers of the East Mirzo Ulugbek, Beruni in space exploration. The exhibits presented here create a rich impression of space exploration.
