Museum in Karakalpakstan tells about history and culture

The State Museum of History and Culture of the Republic of Karakalpakstan has a 93-year history. The museum was founded in Turtkul district and was called the local history museum. In 1944, it moved to the city of Nukus. On the eve of the 28th anniversary of the country’s independence, this museum acquired a new, modern building. Branches of the museum are operating in Ellikkala and Muynak districts.

The ethnographic, natural, archaeological, applied funds, as well as the funds for new history and photography store more than 90 thousand exhibits.

“Visitors of our museum receive wide information about the nature of the Aral Sea region, the archaeological and cultural monuments of the region, the history of the Karakalpak people, their national ethnography”, says Sania Boybusinova, Deputy Director of the museum. – We have unique exhibits and written information about famous writers and artists.
