Tashkent is a city of mosaics. Many researchers and urbanists consider it the only city in the world with a record number of mosaics. The most noticeable ones are located on the facades and ends of residential and public buildings.
The pediments above the entrance doors, the patterns between the windows, and the panels in front of the entrances and the foyer attract attention. Mosaics have a special place in the subway.
According to the Uzbekistan Tourism Committee, a special mobile application, “Tashkent Mosaics”, has been launched.
The application allows users to get acquainted with the mosaic in Tashkent using the Kaleidoscope function and AR filters with augmented reality, which is available at the location of the mosaic when pointing the smartphone camera at it.
The application’s online catalog contains photos, locations, and information about 334 mosaics. The mosaics are photographed, and their history and geolocation are described. Special attention is paid to the preserved examples of this unique art form and those that have been lost over time.
Now, the mosaics of Tashkent are officially recognized as an object of cultural heritage. The launch of the application will undoubtedly contribute to the development of Uzbekistan’s tourism potential, as well as help preserve mosaics for both residents and tourists. The application is available for download on the Google Play, App Store, and App Gallery platforms.
