A solemn event dedicated to the 630th anniversary of the outstanding scientist and statesman Mirzo Ulugbek’s birth was held in Minsk in the House of Friendship.
Representatives of Belarusian official bodies and the accredited diplomatic corps, members of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NAS), academicians, professors, students, and journalists attended the event.
A lecture on the significance of Ulugbek’s scientific and enlightenment heritage was given by NAS academician Pyotr Vityaz, who emphasized that the scientist was not only a great researcher, but also an outstanding ruler. Corresponding Member of the NAS, Professor Sergey Rakhmanov, noted that Ulugbek played a key role in developing the Second Eastern Renaissance.
Dean of the Faculty of Architecture of the Belarusian National Technical University Armen Sardarov added that, on Mirzo Ulugbek’s initiative, madrassas, schools, libraries, and mosques were built, which significantly contributed to the transformation of Asia into an important center of science and culture.
The event ended with a performance of Uzbek national songs and poems by famous poets, who gave the guests vivid emotions and created an atmosphere of oriental creativity.
