MIFT: Uzbekistan, the United States intend to deepen mutually beneficial partnership in the economic sphere

Uzbekistan Government delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov visited Washington.

According to Uzbekistan MIFT, meetings were held with the President of the World Bank Group David Malpass and Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde, Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Makhtar Diop, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and Deputy Secretary Don Graves, U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai, Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) Scott Nathan, and Administrator of USAID Samantha Power.

During the talks, the parties discussed issues of enhancing the mutually beneficial partnership with the World Bank and the IFC, taking into account the strengthening of support for the promotion of socio-economic reforms, attracting additional investment and technical assistance for the implementation of new projects in industry, energy, infrastructure development, banking-financial sector and business support.

The parties also discussed measures to increase and diversify Uzbekistan – American trade turnover, deepen bilateral cooperation in the investment sector, introduce advanced American technologies and innovations in various industries and agriculture, joint actions to attract American companies to do business in Uzbekistan, establish direct ties between representatives of business communities of the two countries, including through the organization of mutual visits of business and trade missions, as well as mechanisms for interaction within the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization.

Following the visit, several agreements were reached on further deepening Uzbekistan – American cooperation in trade, economic, investment, innovation-technological and financial-technical areas.
