A Generalized System of Preferences of the European Union (GSP+) has entered into force for Uzbekistan, where the country has been admitted as a beneficiary country under GSP.
According to the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, this is an important milestone in relations between the European Union and Uzbekistan, which will further deepen both the dialogue between the parties and trade exchanges. The day also marks the beginning of a new path in partnership with many stakeholders in both the EU and Uzbekistan, including local governments, the business community and civil society institutions.
A press conference in Tashkent was dedicated to this event, with the participation of the leaders of the MIFT, the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan, the diplomatic corps, representatives of the private sector, as well as journalists of national and foreign media and bloggers.
“The decision of the European Union to grant our country the status of a GSP+ beneficiary country was made taking into account the tangible results of large-scale reforms and transformations carried out under the leadership and initiative of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which is aimed at forming a democratic state with strong state and civil society institutions. I am sure that this will give a powerful impetus to investors and representatives of the private sector, primarily from the EU countries, to implement promising projects in Uzbekistan, as well as form a solid basis for diversification and accelerated development of trade and economic relations between Uzbekistan and the EU countries”, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov said.
The First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Akmal Saidov, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Uzbekistan, Ambassador Charlotte Adriaen, Ambassadors of Latvia Mihails Popkovs, Italy – Agostino Pinna and Sweden – Ingrid Tersman also delivered speeches at the event.
