UzA continues publishing the responses of foreign specialists and experts on the Constitutional reform, which has entered a decisive stage. Below is the opinion of the Director of the Republican Information Center for the Study of Historical Materials at the Suleimenov Institute of Oriental Studies, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Meruert Abuseitova:
– The draft of the updated Constitution of Uzbekistan reflects the vision and interests of the general public, political parties, public organizations, representatives of expert and scientific circles, and the intelligentsia.
The draft establishes that Uzbekistan is a sovereign, democratic, legal and social state. Important values are the preservation and further strengthening of the country’s independence, the transfer of a free country to future generations, the rule of law and justice, attention and care for people. It was noted that social protection and care for the needy will remain a priority of state policy, and human rights and freedoms will expand. In addition, guarantees of the competitiveness of the national economy, private enterprise and property rights are being strengthened. An important direction is also the provision of broad opportunities to the media and civil society institutions, which is an integral step towards the democratization of the country.
Taking into account the above, I fully support the new version of the Constitution of Uzbekistan and the holding of a referendum.
