On May 9, Uzbekistan celebrates the Day of Remembrance and Honor, each of us pays tribute to the people of Uzbekistan who showed heroism and courage in the war.
Almost two million compatriots went to the front, more than 538 thousand of them died, and over 158 thousand went missing.
During the war, Uzbekistan people accepted evacuated residents and organized enterprises on their territory. The relocated factories produced the products necessary for the front. Uzbekistan received tens of thousands of echelons with the wounded and refugees. A quarter of a million children from Ukraine, Belarus, and besieged Leningrad got a new home in our country. It is noteworthy that the Act of Unconditional Military Surrender of the German Armed Force in 1945 was delivered from Berlin to Moscow by the crew of the pilot Abdusamat Taymetov, a native of Tashkent.
338 of our fathers and grandfathers were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for courage on the battlefields, and thousands of our compatriots were awarded military orders and medals. All this is practical proof of the real heroism of our people in the fight against fascism.
The Day of Remembrance and Honor has been celebrated in Uzbekistan since March 2, 1999. Peace and tranquility, harmony and prosperity reign in the country. On May 9, Uzbekistan organizes concerts, awards and various festive events. People lay flowers at the monuments, memorials, “eternal flame” in all cities of Uzbekistan, and honor the memory of the dead soldiers with a minute of silence, pay tribute to veterans and home front workers.
The President of the country also has a special attitude to the Day of Remembrance and Honor. The Head of the state notes that our people will never forget the heroes of the war and their exploits in the fight against fascism. They are the honor and pride of our people, and their deeds are immortal.
In Tashkent, on this day, war heroes are honored on Mustakillik Square, on the Glory and Memory Alley. Here is a memorial symbolizing the Motherland. The monument symbolizes the grief and suffering of mothers whose sons died in the fight against fascism, and the whole people.
May 9 is a day of remembrance of the tragedy that occurred in the world, which teaches us to draw conclusions from the past and to appreciate the peace. As President Shavkat Mirziyoyev notes, on the example of the highest heroism of our fathers and grandfathers, the main values of the people, the nation – honoring war and labor veterans – are further developed. We will always consider perpetuating their memory as our sacred duty. The preservation of peace and stability, interethnic and interfaith harmony in the country, strengthening friendly ties and cooperation with all states of the world are becoming increasingly important.
A person, people, and a nation are alive and eternal thanks to historical memory. Without a doubt, our descendants will never forget at what cost this great Victory over fascism was achieved.
Uzbekistan is a supporter of resolving any conflicts and confrontations only through peace talks.
