Melon Festival winners in Khiva determined

On August 11-13, the Tourism Committee and the Hokimiyat of Khorezm region organized “Qovun Sayli” (Melon Festival) in the ancient city of Khiva.

The event was attended by representatives of 12 regions, 11 districts, and 2 cities, particularly farms, government agencies, and private organizations.

As part of the festival, 66 pavilions were built on 40 hectares, and farms from each region of the country presented their products – melons. Local and foreign guests saw and tasted about 100 varieties of melons. The pavilions offered guests various fruits and vegetables, confectionery, beekeeping products, handicrafts, animal husbandry, and fishing.

The stands of the regions were evaluated by their design and creativity of the approach, the variety and size of melons, products from them, theatrical, stage, and historical performances, presentation of gastronomic tourism services, service culture, promotional materials, and performances of folklore groups.

Following the festival, the winners were determined. The city of Khiva became the owner of the Grand Prix (the prize – “Gentra” car). The first place went to the Koshkupir district of Khorezm region (“Nexia 3” car), the second place to Tashkent region (“Spark” car), the third place to Yangibazar district of Khorezm region (“Damas” car).

Winners were also determined and awarded in the nominations “For achieving the highest income and productivity in melon growing”, “Restoration of ancient traditional varieties of Khorezm melons”, “For growing the best export melons”, “For introducing innovative technologies in melon growing”, “A region, growing most types of gourds”.

It is noteworthy that thanks to the event, more than 2 thousand foreign guests and about 100 thousand local tourists visited Khorezm region these days.
