On September 29, delegation of Moscow Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church led by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia arrived in Uzbekistan.Freedom of conscience is comprehensively provided in our country. In particular, the Constitution of our country stipulates the right of everyone to profess or not to profess any religion. The Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On freedom of conscience and religious organizations” serves as a legal basis for freely celebrating of religious rites by representatives of various faiths.
Members of the delegation visited the Holy Trinity St. Nicholas Convent in Tashkent. On the example of created conditions for our compatriots professing the Christian religion, they became convinced of implementation in Uzbekistan of a humane policy aimed at ensuring tolerance, religious and interethnic harmony, stability in society.
A meeting was also held at the Committee on Religious Affairs under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan.
Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan O.Yusupov, head of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan mufti U.Alimov noted the initiatives implemented under the leadership of the President of our country in order to strengthen interethnic harmony and religious tolerance. In particular, it was emphasized that Center for Islamic Civilization that is being established in Tashkent and International scientific research center of Imam Bukhari in Samarkand are of great importance in the study of true Islam, the struggle against religious extremism and fanaticism.
At the meeting, implementation of consistent work on strengthening interethnic harmony and religious tolerance within the framework of the Strategy of actions on five priority areas of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021 was noted.
Members of the delegation will visit Samarkand and Bukhara regions. They will take part in the solemn event that will be held at Turkiston Palace in connection with the 145th anniversary of Tashkent diocese.
