A meeting with the delegation of the international non-governmental organization Amnesty International led by Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Marie Struthers was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

On May 24, 2018, a meeting with the delegation of the international non-governmental organization Amnesty International led by Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Marie Struthers was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, prospective areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Amnesty International INGO were discussed at the meeting.

Marie Struthers and her colleagues shared their impressions of the meetings held in the city of Tashkent at the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Supreme Court, a number of ministries and agencies, with representatives of a number of non-governmental and non-profit organizations.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ meeting, it was noted that Uzbekistan has no issues that are planned to be hidden or excluded from the agenda of discussion with Amnesty International.

Activity on humanization of the judicial system is consistently carried out in Uzbekistan, the country is moving away from traditional, mostly repressive measures of counteracting radicalism. More attention is paid to prevention, employment, social rehabilitation, education and upbringing.

As it was emphasized, Uzbekistan is determined not to dwell on the achieved, it intends to continue to make purposeful efforts in the sphere of ensuring human rights.
