11:12 / 2021-01-10

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov met with the Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) Adam Boehler.

The positive dynamics of development of Uzbekistan – American relations, achieved through deepening the trade-economic and investment cooperation, was noted at the meeting.

The sides welcomed the launching of the Central Asian Investment Partnership initiative, which was forwarded by the Uzbek side during the visit of DFC Chief Executive Officer Adam Boehler to Tashkent in July 2020.

This initiative, which provides for mobilization of at least $1 billion, will become a tool to stimulate the growth of inclusive, transparent and sustainable investments through the implementation of projects in various sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy.

The parties agreed on financing specific projects in energy, infrastructure, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, as well as agriculture.

The joint implementation of a regional project for the construction of the Mazar-i-Sharif – Kabul – Peshawar railway line was also discussed. The foreign side highly appreciated the importance of the project in strengthening the transport-communication links between South and Central Asia and sustainable development of the region’s countries.

An agreement was reached on sending a DFC permanent representative to Tashkent to promote the implementation of joint projects and initiatives, develop new areas of cooperation, as well as coordinate the partnership of DFC with Central Asian countries.

The sides decided to develop and adopt a joint roadmap for the timely implementation of agreements and agreed on projects to organize the systemic interaction for ensuring the implementation of the reached agreements.
