Meeting with China’s Special Envoy for Afghan Affairs

On August 5, 2021, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev met with the Special Envoy for Afghan Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Yue Xiaoyong, Uzbekistan MFA reports.

The representative of China highly appreciated the results of the International Conference on Regional Connectivity in Tashkent, noting that the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to convene an international forum of such a high level was timely, and the agenda was very relevant.

The parties exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan and the prospects for its development, discussed issues of mutual assistance to the peace process in this country. It was noted that Uzbekistan and China attach great importance to consolidating the efforts of the international community to resolve the long-standing conflict.

The expediency of continuing cooperation between the parties to support peace and stability in Afghanistan both on a bilateral basis and within the framework of international organizations, in particular, the Doha Platform and SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group was emphasized.

The parties noted the important role of a unified approach of the regional countries in the Afghan crisis, as well as the need for continuing all-round economic and humanitarian support for the Afghan people.
