On 22 June 2021, Head of Uzbekistan Mission to the EU, Ambassador Dilyor Khakimov met with a Member of the European Parliament Maximilian Krah.
The parties exchanged views on the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union.
The European side was informed about the large-scale reforms carried out under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, practical measures to improve the judicial-legal system, ensure respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, strengthen civil society and support the media, and the upcoming presidential elections in Uzbekistan.
The main attention was paid to the process currently being carried out within the framework of the recently received status of GSP+ beneficiary country by the Uzbek side, as well as the development of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA) between Uzbekistan and the European Union and the country's accession to the WTO.
The parliamentarian welcomed the positive changes taking place in Uzbekistan, supporting the large-scale reforms being implemented in the country. Satisfaction was expressed with the dynamic development of Uzbekistan-European relations. The progress made by the parties within the framework of GSP+ was also highlighted.
Special attention was paid to the international initiatives of Uzbekistan. In particular, the interlocutor expressed interest in participating in the upcoming International Conference “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and Opportunities” in Tashkent.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed on several joint activities.
