On July 25, XI meeting of the Asian Committee for Storytelling Art was held in Tashkent.

The event was attended by scientists-folklorists, cultural figures from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and South Korea along with Uzbek specialists. They discussed expansion of opportunities for cultural exchange between the member states of the Committee, activities carried out on promoting identity and diversity of folklore, tasks for the future.

Asian Committee for Storytelling Art was established in 2009 in South Korea with participation of Ministries of Culture of Central Asian countries. The purpose of the Committee's activity is to promote folklore art, reflecting centuries-old customs and traditions of the Committee’s member states through studying, collection and publication of their samples.

At the event, Korean experts emphasized that the creative intelligentsia of Central Asian countries attaches special importance to storytelling genre and publishes books on oral folk art. It was also noted that 300-page book, a collection of fairy tales, parables and stories, published in cooperation with Central Asian and South Korean folklorists, serves to further strengthening cultural ties and educational cooperation between nations.

A number of events are planned to be held within the framework of the Committee’s meeting. In particular, a book fair will be organized for children, where presentation of books by Korean writers will take place.
