On April 27, 2015 members of the delegation headed by the Chairman of the Inter-parliamentary friendship group of the National Assembly of the State of Kuwait Saud Al-Hereiji met with the deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sarvar Otamuratov.

During the meeting it was noted that the Uzbek-Kuwaiti relations have been successively developing. The impetus for strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries became the official visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to the State of Kuwait in January 2004, during which the appropriate normative-legal framework was formed.

Official visit of the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah to the Republic of Uzbekistan in July 2008 served as the rise of bilateral relations to a new level. Evidence of this is the signing a number of documents on strengthening the Uzbek-Kuwaiti relations, intensification of trade, economic and investment cooperation at the end of the visit.

At the meeting it was emphasized that inter-parliamentary relations play an important place in the development of bilateral political dialogue. So far, five parliamentary delegations of Kuwait visited our country. Meetings with the leadership of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan were held during the visits, which were for informational purposes, where issues of developing inter-parliamentary relations and regular exchange of delegations for the establishment of closer cooperation between the parliamentarians of the two countries were discussed. Moreover, representatives of Kuwait participated as international observers at the presidential elections in Uzbekistan in 2007 and 2015 and parliamentary elections in 2009 and 2014.

At the regular meeting on development of bilateral inter-parliamentary relations Kuwaiti delegation became acquainted with the activity of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the negotiations, the role and importance of the Concept of further deepening democratic reforms and establishing civil society in the country in strengthening the control functions of the parliament of our country was especially emphasized.

– Kuwait is interested in further development of relations with Uzbekistan, – noted the Chairman of the Inter-parliamentary friendship group of the National Assembly of the State of Kuwait Saud Al-Hereiji – I want to mention a solid legal framework, which has greatly expanded the powers of parliament of your country. Without a doubt, there are many opportunities for further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation between our countries.
