Masters from Samarkand participate in the construction and reconstruction of the cultural and historical complex Kalai Khujand

More than 30 masters from Samarkand are engaged in construction and finishing works in the cultural and historical complex Kalai Khujand (Khujand Fortress).

According to the National News Agency of Tajikistan Khovar, Kalai Khujand is being restored based on the instructions from the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon. More than 300 specialists and builders, folk artisans and artists, decorators, potters, and carvers are involved in the construction work.

Based on the project, it is planned to restore the walls of the fortress, erect an administrative building, samples of ancient houses and courtyards of Khujand, a hotel and a museum, a teahouse, a bathhouse, service points, and other auxiliary facilities, the work is proceeding at a rapid pace.

The Khujand Fortress, as an integral part of the fortification system of the city, according to archaeologists, was founded in the 6th-5th centuries BC. In the 6th-7th centuries, a new fortress was built. The medieval Khujand fortress was considered one of the most fortified in the region.
