The Tashkent House of Photography at the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan hosted the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition about the work of the great Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi.

The event is dedicated to the anniversary of the great Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi’s birth, celebrated in Romania (February 19).

The exhibition, which includes 35 photographs, presents the works of Constantin Brancusi, a pioneer of modernism and one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century, who is called the patriarch of modern sculpture.

Chairman of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan Akmal Nuriddinov, Ambassador of Romania to Uzbekistan Daniel Christian Ciobanu noted that friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Romania are strengthening. This is also manifested in the scientific and humanitarian, cultural and educational relations between the two peoples.

Constantin Brancusi, (born February 19, 1876, Hobița, Romania – died March 16, 1957, Paris, France), pioneer of modern abstract sculpture whose works in bronze and marble are characterized by a restrained, elegant use of pure form and exquisite finishing.

A passionate wood-carver, he produced numerous wood sculptures, often with a folk flavor, and he frequently carved prototypes for works later executed in other materials. He is best known for his abstract sculptures of ovoid heads and birds in flight.

Constantin Brancusi created such well-known works as “Endless Column”, “Table of Silence”, “Gate of the Kiss”, “Master”, “Bird in Space”, etc.

In 2015 the Romanian Parliament declared February 19 “The Brâncuși Day”, a working holiday in Romania.

The exhibition at the Tashkent House of Photography will run from February 22 to March 1.
