Uzbekistan delegation led by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva took part in the International Conference “Dialogue is a Guarantee of Peace”, timed to coincide with the celebration of the 27th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality, in Ashgabat.

The event brought together high representatives of such international and regional organizations as the UN, OTS, EU, UNAMA, members of the Central Asia Women’s Dialogue, heads of the diplomatic corps of foreign countries in Ashgabat, prominent public and political figures, leading experts.

UNAMA Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Representative Markus Potzel noted that the establishment of sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan, the achievement of national consensus, and the provision of an inclusive political process dictate the need to maintain a dialogue with Afghanistan.

In this context, the UN representative expressed full support for the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to create an international negotiating group on Afghanistan, which was put forward on October 13 this year during the Sixth Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia. As Markus Potzel stressed, this unique format will help achieve a broad consensus on Afghan problems at the global level and develop coordinated approaches to interact with the interim government of Afghanistan.
