Margilan will become the World City of Silk and Ikat Craftsmen
On 20-22 October, Margilan will host the 5th International Festival of Traditional Textiles “Atlas Bayrami” (“Atlas Holiday”). At the festival, Margilan is expected to be awarded the status of “World City of Silk and Ikat Craftsmen”. This is evidence of high attention to national crafts.
An artisan center in Kushtepa district is overflowing with visitors from different regions of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Theoretical and practical training sessions on traditional crafts, ethnographic design and entrepreneurship held at the center arouse great interest among visitors.
As part of the festival, Doctor of Arts, Academician Akbar Khakimov and Associate Professor of the National Institute of Arts and Design Binafsha Nodir held masterclasses on “Traditional Uzbek costumes of the early XIX-XX centuries”, “Problems of restoring and preserving traditional crafts in the years of independence”, “Modern world fashion and art of traditional crafts in Uzbekistan”.
