MAKON FEST 2022 – National Art and Traditions Festival

On March 20, 21, 22, Tashkent will host a grandiose event in the Dustlik Park - the National Art and Traditions Festival “MAKON FEST 2022”.

The organizers of the project, which will present the whole variety of folk traditions and customs, applied arts, national dishes, the unique oral and intangible heritage of Uzbekistan, are the Hokimiyat of the city of Tashkent, the Hokimiyat of Yakkasaray district, the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, the administration of Dustlik Park and the Makon TV channel.

The festival will be held under the motto “Biz Bir Makon – Biz O’zbekiston” (“We Are One Nation – We Are Uzbekistan”).

About 15 thousand people, including guests and tourists from Italy, the United States, China, Russia, France, Switzerland, Japan, the United Kingdom, Israel, Spain, Greece, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and other countries, are expected to attend the festival. Among them are well-known figures of culture and art, scientists and researchers, foreign media representatives.

On March 20, over 300 members of folklore groups will march along the central alley of the park in a festive procession, involving hundreds of passers-by, tourists and guests of the festival in the dance.

The Arts and Crafts Fair will bring together about 100 potters, weavers, artists, chasers, jewelers, blacksmiths from all regions of Uzbekistan. The malls will be full of wonderfully patterned chapans, dresses and carpets, jewelry-painted calligraphic utensils, toys, luxurious headdresses, dresses, jewelry, paintings and fabrics.

A book fair will present children’s literature, memoirs, books on psychology, philosophy, sociology and art, editions of modern and classical prose and poetry.

National wrestling competitions will bring together 100 young and already experienced athletes from all over Uzbekistan.

Everyone can take part in chess and table tennis competitions. Yoga, Zumba and mass flash mobs will become a memorable part of the festival.

Guests can visit the exhibition of vintage cars, get to know the owners of rare models and learn stories about their restoration, preservation and maintenance.

The Puppet Theater has prepared a premiere performance for the youngest spectators. Two screenings on the first and third days will take place in the amphitheater of the park. The uniqueness of the performances is their adaptation for children with special needs, during the performances sign language interpretation is planned on specially installed monitors.

Youth events will give a modern breath to the festival: an exhibition of contemporary art, Dance and RAP battles. A dance battle from the dance house Zlotnikov Dance will take place on the third day of the festival.

The festival of national dishes will create a special atmosphere of a great open-air holiday, which will attract many gourmets, as well as experts in local and foreign cuisine, with its aromas.

During the three days of the festival, traditional spring dishes – sumalak and halim – will boil in cauldrons, “ko’k-somsa” will be prepared in tandoors. Cooked treats will be distributed to both visitors and sent to nursing and disabled homes.

The evening program of the final day will begin with a fashionable performance of national dresses.

Makon Fest 2022 will end with a grand gala concert.

Following the gala concert, the prizes will be awarded to the laureates of Makon Fest 2022. Masters of arts and crafts, chefs, designers and folk groups will be awarded diplomas and valuable gifts from the festival organizers.
