The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Madrid hosted a briefing on “Samarkand – the Tourist Gateway of New Uzbekistan”.
The event was attended by permanent representatives of member states of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), representatives of Spanish companies, business circles, and the media.
The Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UNWTO, Ambassador Jakhongir Ganiyev, informed the participants about the progress of preparations for the upcoming session and the measures taken by the government of the country to transform the city of Samarkand into one of the most attractive tourist hubs in Asia.
The briefing participants got acquainted with the large systemic work being carried out in Uzbekistan to increase the tourist attractiveness of Samarkand further.
The heads of the diplomatic missions of Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, and the Philippines spoke highly of Uzbekistan’s active position in strengthening international cooperation in the development of global tourism, as well as the work being carried out in the country to study and widely disseminate the rich spiritual and cultural heritage, restoration and preservation of ancient monuments and architectural complexes. They also expressed confidence that the upcoming 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly in the city of Samarkand will attract thousands of foreign guests, including large investors and tour operators, as well as the attention of the world media, which will contribute to the popularization of Uzbekistan and, ultimately, will serve to promote the country’s tourism potential.
