Luigi Iperti: Constitutional reform in Uzbekistan is a requirement of the time and is dictated by the development of the country
15:46 / 2022-06-25

Honorary President of Italy – Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce Luigi Iperti commented for the IA Dunyo on the issues of introducing amendments and additions to the Constitution of Uzbekistan:

– I am following the ongoing debate in Uzbekistan on constitutional changes proposed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev with great interest.

I have identified two motives underlying the constitutional reforms.

The first. The constitutional reform in Uzbekistan is a requirement of the time and is dictated by the development of the country, new trends and priorities, the need to adapt the Basic Law of the state to the requirements of modernity and its ability to respond to emerging challenges.

The second is the main one: the full implementation of the priority principle “In the name of human honor and dignity”.

Mr. Luigi Iperti noted the involvement of citizens in the development of new constitutional norms, as evidenced by the meeting with members of the Constitutional Commission on June 20, when the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev drew attention to the fact that the Commission received 48,492 proposals from citizens. This suggests that constitutional reforms are on the agenda and represent an objective necessity felt by citizens.

The President also outlined in detail the goals that should be the basis of the reforms, and among them, he highlighted the following, which are certainly very relevant:

Determine that Uzbekistan pursues a peaceful and friendly policy with all countries, primarily with neighboring ones, and its foreign policy is based on respect for human rights and freedoms, principles and norms of territorial integrity.

“These reforms are ambitious, but I am confident that they will be implemented for the benefit of Uzbekistan and its citizens”, Mr. Luigi Iperti said.
